Business Analyst

Job Summary

The Business Analyst (BA) acts as a domain expert for internal business systems, client-facing applications, and end user solutions.  The BA identifies and creates business cases for new systems or improvements to existing systems.  The BA creates the project’s objectives, scope and prioritized product backlog.  During development, the BA provides a user-based perspective to design, development and user experience concerns.   The BA is responsible for the smooth rollout of the system providing the necessary training and support to internal and external users. 

This position provides vision, direction and motivation to the project team.  The BA works closely with the entire IT team interacting frequently with key IT leadership.  Additionally, the BA spends significant time with operational and business groups understanding their problems and improvement opportunities.  This position requires strong analytical skills including the ability to use data tools to gather the information required to make data-driven decisions. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Acting as an Agile Product Owner, writes stories for upcoming releases and collaboratively participates in all Scrum ceremonies.
  • Independently gathers data to identify issues or opportunities, turning these into software features or operational process changes. 
  • Creates short and long-term solution roadmaps to achieve the business strategy.
  • Conducts initial investigation into new or enhanced solutions, building a solid business case and advocating for initiating the project. 
  • Defines and approves the release and launch plans for all software releases. 
  • Makes decisions on scope/schedule/cost trade-offs, client deliverables, and operational timeline issues. 
  • Serves as a liaison between development team and end-users.

Qualifications

  • Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Mathematics; or MBA
  • Experience:  4+ years of professional experience as a Business Analyst, Product Owner or similar role.
  • Experience using relational database tools (SQL Server, MySQL, etc) and reporting tools (Excel, SSRS, PowerBI, etc) to produce reports and analyze data.

  • Uses thorough analysis and relevant data to make sound business decisions. 
  • Able to communicate professionally and clearly with technical and non-technical team members.
  • Influences stakeholders and works closely with them to determine acceptable solutions.
  • Exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills with ability to identify trends or issues from operational data. 
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle (requirements, designs, risks, project planning, etc) and agile software methods such as Scrum.
